Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 June 2026 – OUTLINE
The focus of the passage is more on the father who demonstrated extreme love for both sons. The father granted the request of the young man even though it was not timely. The father’s compassion was displayed to the fullest at his return. But note the step the younger son had to first take to enjoy the full compassion of his father (Luke 15:17-20a,21).
We have a Father who is eagerly waiting for us and is filled with compassion to bestow on us the best robe, a ring on the finger and sandals on the feet. Oh that we may truly repent of our sin and return from every form of rebellious way of life! The celebration will be for us. We see the same attitude of the religious leaders of yesterday’s passage in the older son who refused to share in the joy of his brother’s homecoming.
Instead, he focused on his brother’s sins and was completely blind to his own sin of extreme ingratitude (Luke 15:28-30). This older son, or any of us who behaves in a similar way, is equally lost. Anyone who depends on his/her good works cannot enjoy the Father’s love and grace. See Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:8-9.
Food for Thought
The Prodigal son took a firm decision to return to his father and he acted on it. Anyone who does the same will also receive our heavenly Father’s welcome into His kingdom.

THANK GOD FOR:
•Availability of spirit-filled Christian literatures for our youths like the Search magazines, Mr. Mee escape and run a race etc.
•Pilgrims and adults who are currently involved in subsidizing and promoting these literatures to young people in Schools, churches and fellowships.
PRAY FOR:
•A rekindled hunger to read Christian novels among our Christian youths
•Zeal and creativity among our schools’ visitors and youth workers to effectively promote the usage of these materials among our youths.
PRAY AGAINST:
•Discouragement from the pit of hell to cause us to cease in our zeal of promoting youth Christian literature.
