Today’s passage concerns the cleansing of a leper and the healing of a paralytic person. In both cases, faith was demonstrated for the miracles to take place. The leper came to Jesus in faith, believing that He could cleanse him. The friends of the paralytic also exercised faith in Christ for their friend’s healing (Luke 5:12-18). Our Saviour is always willing to rescue, help, heal, deliver and restore. Why did Christ instruct the leper to show himself to the priest (Luke 5:13; Leviticus 14:1-4)?
Jesus had a habit of withdrawing to the wilderness to pray (Luke 5:16). Prayer is very important for an effective ministry (Isaiah 40:31). How often do you withdraw to a lonely place to commune with God?
How do the actions of the friends of the paralytic challenge you (Luke 5:17-20)? The healing of the paralytic man shows the authority of Jesus to forgive sin. This is an example of a case where sinful act causes sickness. But not all sicknesses are caused by sin committed by the person (See John 9:1-3). The forgiveness of sin is the greatest of all miracles. Thus, no matter what your sin may be, Jesus will forgive you when you confess and repent (1 John 1:9).
