Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 January 2022 | SU Devotional | Outline:
The two groups in our passage today gate crashed to receive the desire of their hearts from the Lord. The leper is not expected to mix with people, but he saw and seized the slightest opportunity to receive his healing. Jesus is ever willing to respond to our prayer of faith. We can always trust Him. Notice the trouble the friends of this paralytic went through to ensure he received his healing. We don’t know who initiated the move to go to Jesus, the man or his friends or both. Jesus commands us to ask (and keep asking), seek (and keep seeking) and knock (and keep knocking) (Matthew 7:7). The friends did serious knocking, and they received the desire of their hearts. What sacrifice are you ready to make for your brother or sister? Notice the main problem of the paralytic. Jesus had to first address this before he could receive his healing (v.20). Some physical problems have spiritual roots. Our doctors can treat the symptoms but only Jesus can deliver us from the root cause. Jesus forgave the paralytic’s sin to confirm that He is divine; fully God and fully man.
