Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th September 2020 – Passion For God’s Kingdom And Glory

TODAY’S TOPIC: PASSION FOR GOD’S KINGDOM AND GLORY

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 132.1–18

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

TODAY’S OUTLINE: Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th September 2020

This Psalm is believed to have been written by Solomon during the installation of the Ark of God in Jerusalem, as an expression of his gratitude for the privilege God gave him to build the temple. Observe that he did not claim any merit for this achievement, instead he saw it as fulfilment of God’s promise to David his father, who had desired to build the temple but could not carry it out because of the many troubles he faced (v.1).

Read vv.2–5 again. What can we learn from David about the way to pursue God’s mission in our generation? If the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ will be fulfilled soon, then like David, God’s kingdom and his glory must become our consuming passion and pursuit.

For what four things did Solomon pray (vv.8–10)? How we also need God’s presence and favour in our worship today! Vv.11, 13–18 contain many wonderful promises of God to the descendants of David. These promises found their ultimate fulfilment in Christ our Lord. What is the condition for enjoying these covenant blessings that we have in Christ (v.12)?

⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application
• And So: How concerned are you to see God’s will, kingdom and glory come upon this generation? In what specific way(s) can you participate more in the Great Commission?

Today’s Prayer
• Dear heavenly Father, fill me with fresh passion to pray and labour for the glory of your kingdom in my generation.
• Pray for an understanding of God’s priorities for these times.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with John 7:38

Read the Bible in one Year
Judges 7–8; John 3:19–36
