TOPIC: The Exemplary Church
BIBLE READING
Revelation 3:7-13
7 “And to the [a]angel of the church in Philadelphia write,
‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: 8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, [b]and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name. 9 Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept [c]My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. 11 [d]Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. 12 He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.
13 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’
QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q4: Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 8th August 2026 – OUTLINE
The church in Philadelphia was an exemplary church for us to follow. Note that the Lord had no complaint against them at all. Despite their little strength, they never denied the Lord in the time of trial (Revelation 3:8b). Little strength is not an issue. We must never trust in ourselves but wholly depend on the Lord’s strength. Read Revelation 3:8-10,12 again and outline the promises of the Lord to those who obey His words.
Many of us claim bible blessings without fulfilling the conditions attached. If we want God’s open doors, we must also learn to keep His word and be faithful to Him in all situations. Take note of the command in Revelation 3:11. Life is not cyclic. It is moving toward a climax, the soon coming of the Lord. This is the hope of the believer.
Holding to what you have means to persevere as you contend for your faith. God will never ask us to do the impossible. Whatever He commands us to do is possible and profitable for us. Obeying God’s commands gives us confidence to go forward and to endure hardships knowing that God would be with us, fight for us and make us victorious in the end (Isaiah 43:2-3).
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, help me to live an exemplary life each day of my life.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Pray that God will destroy violence and every form of wickedness from our land. Pray that God’s judgement will fall upon all those committing these devilish acts.
