Scripture Union Daily Guide – 6 September 2025 | OUTLINE
We should not lose sight of the fact that the Lord was answering the three-in-one question of the disciples in Matthew 24:3 (Read it again). Today’s portion starts with, “Therefore” (Matthew 24:15, NKJV) which links back to “the end will come” (Matthew 24:14).
The original audience of the Lord were both Christians (believers in Christ) and Jews (by nationality). Prophet Daniel was a Jew who was taken captive and on exile to Babylon where he saw the vision quoted here in Matthew 24:15. There were aspects of the prophetic messages meant solely for the Jews and some other aspects that were not only universal but specifically for the Church. For us, the Lord does not paint a beautiful picture of the world in which He left His Church to exist.
We should understand that in this world we shall have trouble (tribulation, John 16:33). The Jews did not only kill their Messiah but continue to harden their hearts in unbelief till today. While their time of great tribulation is punitive, the Church’s times of tribulation is preparatory for the coming of the Son of God. Scholars do not agree on whether Christians would pass through the great tribulation (read Matthew 24:16-22 again). Christians are left as witnesses in this world.
