One of the tragedies among believers today is inconsistent Christian lifestyle. There are obvious double standards. A believer like Peter will behave differently at church compared with his behaviour at home or at work. This is dangerous for the church (Galatians 2:12,13). Peter’s hypocritical action encouraged racism in the church. Are you living a consistent life as a believer? Paul demonstrated Christian maturity and strong desire for unity in the church by confronting Peter publicly. His wrong example was in the public and so he needed to be corrected publicly for the benefit of the whole church.
Peter’s failure supported and promoted the position of the Judaizers which negated Christ’s work on the cross (Galatians 2:15,16). He was re-enacting the works he once denounced at conversion (Galatians 2:18). We are justified in Jesus Christ through faith and not by our works or traditions which would nullify the grace of God to believers. Is your life a good example to those in your community?
And So:
Be determined never to deliberately lead any person astray by your action and pray that you remain consistent.
