► Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
Scripture Union Daily Guide – 5 October 2025 Outline
As long as we are alive, God’s grace for our salvation through His never-failing promises (Hebrews 4:1) is still available to us. However, the caution to “be careful” (Hebrews 4:1) is a timely warning due to the possibility of abandoning the faith and falling short of entering God’s eternal rest (Hebrews 4:6).
We learn from 1 Timothy 4:1-3 that in the last days, some people will abandon their faith for various reasons including false teaching and worldliness. We attain salvation not by works but by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8). But once we have salvation, there is the need to “make every effort” (Hebrews 4:11) to work out this salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12,13).
Christian faith is not a passive faith. We have our role to play also. What would be the result of making the effort (Hebrews 4:11)?
Identify at least four attributes of the Word of God revealed in Hebrews 4:12 and note the four ways that these qualities sustain us in our Christian walk so we don’t miss entering God’s rest.

HYMN: Farther Along
1. Tempted and tried, we’re oft made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long;
While there are others living about us,
Never molested, though in the wrong.
Refrain: Farther along we’ll know more about it,
Farther along we’ll understand why;
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine,
We’ll understand it all by and by.
2. Sometimes I wonder why I must suffer,
Go in the rain, the cold, and the snow,
When there are many living in comfort,
Giving no heed to all I can do.
3. Tempted and tried, how often we question
Why we must suffer year after year,
Being accused by those of our loved ones,
E’en though we’ve walked in God’s holy fear.
4. Often when death has taken our loved ones,
Leaving our home so lone and so drear,
Then do we wonder why others prosper,
Living so wicked year after year.
5. Faithful till death, saith our loving Master;
Short is our time to labor and wait;
Then will our toiling seem to be nothing,
When we shall pass the heavenly gate.
6. Soon we will see our dear, loving Savior,
Hear the last trumpet sound through the sky;
Then we will meet those gone on before us,
Then we shall know and understand why.
