Bible Text
Luke 24:1-12
1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, [a]and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were [b]greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
8 And they remembered His words. 9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told these things to the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them like [c]idle tales, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter arose and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths [d]lying by themselves; and he departed, marveling to himself at what had happened.
Meditation Question
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q3: Is there any command for me to obey?
How do we become witnesses of things that happen around us? In the resurrection story, the women were totally committed to care for the Lord in life and in death. Their passion for the Lord brought them to the tomb on the resurrection morning. They became first-hand witnesses and provided testimony for the resurrection. What does this teach us about faithfulness in our service?
Notice the message of the angels to the women. How do we sometimes keep looking for what is dead, gone and dealt with but we are oblivious to the new thing God is doing? Meanwhile the disciples struggled to believe what the women told them. Why didn’t the disciples believe their testimony (Luke 24:11)? The testimony of women was not deemed authoritative at the time. But Jesus respected women and treated them with high regard (John 4:1-26). God often does His mighty works through the most unlikely people (1 Corinthians 1:27-31). The way God works may not make sense to us humans sometimes. The empty tomb is the evidence and a constant reminder that Jesus conquered death. How does this guarantee our own resurrection as the people of the resurrected King?

HYMN: HALLELUJAH, HE IS RISEN!
1. Hallelujah, He is risen!
Jesus is gone up on high!
Burst the bars of death asunder,
Angels shout and men reply:
He is risen, He is risen,
Living now no more to die.
He is risen, He is risen,
Living now no more to die.
2. Hallelujah, He is risen!
Our exalted head to be;
Sends the witness of the Spirit
That our advocate is He:
He is risen, He is risen,
Justified in Him are we.
He is risen, He is risen,
Justified in Him are we.
3. Hallelujah, He is risen!
Death for aye hath lost his sting,
Christ, Himself the Resurrection,
From the grave His own will bring:
He is risen, He is risen,
Living Lord and coming King.
He is risen, He is risen,
Living Lord and coming King.
Closing Prayer
Pray that the church will emphasize this truth through this season and beyond.
Prayer of Faith
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 41:10
