Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 June 2020 For Thursday
Topic: In the Name of Jesus Christ?
Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.
Scripture: Acts 3:1–11
Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Outline: Notice the priority the Apostles placed on prayers (v.1; cf. 6:4). No wonder they made tremendous impact. If we also want to make a lasting impact on our generation, we must give ourselves to prayer. The crippled beggar asked for money (v.3), but instead was healed through what Peter said (vv.4,6) and what he did (v.7). This healing proves that the crucified Jesus is alive; not only as an affirmation of faith but also as a dynamic power which transforms lives and situations of men.
Notice the reaction of the people to the healing of the beggar (vv.9–11)? When God performs a miracle through us, it is primarily to attract unbelievers to himself and the gospel. Read v.6 again. How does this challenge our priorities in ministry and today’s prosperity doctrine of, “The more money we have, the more successful we are in ministry,” or like some will even say; “anointing without money is annoyance”? While it is true that we need money for ministry, money must not become our priority or motivation for ministry (see 1 Timothy 6:6–10; Hebrews 13:5).
Practice/Word Application
• So: How can we help to pattern our church after the model described in this passage?
Prayer Points
• Revive us O Lord, to experience again the acts of the Holy Ghost in our days as in the days of the Apostles.
• Pray for Christians who are being persecuted as a result of their faith to have courage and perseverance. Pray for God’s speedy intervention and help.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with 3 John 1:2
