Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 APRIL 2024 OUTLINE
Openness, sincerity, and honesty are characteristics of true relationship. Notice how this is reflected in Paul’s letter in vs.11-12? The same characteristics constitute the reason for their misunderstanding. Despite the challenges he has gone through, Paul still expresses his love, concern, and trust in them. He wrote a severe letter for the benefit of the Corinthians and for them to accept his message and his apostleship.
As Christians, occasions will arise when we must rebuke each other by telling the truth in love. This may cause severe pain, but in the long term, it is of benefit to the family.
All is well that ends well. Paul was happy that his letter to the Corinthian church yielded fruit of repentance. Paul was greatly encouraged by their repentance. A mature Christian should graciously accept constructive criticism, sincerely evaluate, and grow from it (vs.8-9). Are you a church leader? What lessons can you learn from the way Paul handled his fears about the church in Corinth?
Read vs.11 and notice the fruit(s) that bore witness to the repentance of the church in Corinth. What does this teach us as a church today? Notice Paul’s concern in writing the letter to the church (v.12). The way the church receives Titus and responds to his instructions further proved their repentance (v.15). From what you have learnt from today’s reading, what should be the mark(s) of the true church of Christ?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
