Scripture Union Daily Guide 30 November 2023 MESSAGE
God is here expressing His indignation against all nations. Just as individuals are accountable to God, so are nations accountable to Him. God’s fury is directed at the armies of the nations whom He has given over to the slaughter (v.2). God is observing and recording all the evils national leaders, their armies, and their people are committing and on the day of His vengeance, nothing will restrain Him. There will be a blood bath and whole cities will be devastated and the land turned into the dwelling places of wild animals and birds.
In v.16, God commits Himself to the promise that none of what He said would fail to be accomplished. Let us not be deceived by the fact that the world will continue to ignore God by consistently breaking His laws and getting away with it. But the day of reward is coming and only the righteous will escape.
Why do you think the prophet invites the nations to come near and listen and pay attention (v.1)? “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15), Jesus said. The Lord invites people everywhere to draw near to Him to avoid eventual destruction. Have you responded to the Lord’s invitation?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
