TOPIC: No Yeast, But There Must Be Salt

The second offering is the Grain Offering. It was a voluntary expression of devotion to God for His goodness and providence. It afforded the poor an opportunity to worship God with what they had. It also accompanies all burnt offerings (Numbers 15:1-4) and one of the ways God provided for the priests (vs.3&10). It can be presented to the Lord in three ways. Check vs.1-3; 4-7 and 14-16. But there are procedures that must be followed for it to be accepted. Read vs.4-5, 11, 9 &13 again and note the essential requirements for this offering?
Yeast was forbidden probably because it causes fermentation which is tantamount to decay and corruption of the flour. Yeast sometimes is used to symbolize sin (Matthew 16:6; 1 Corinthians 5:6-8). No matter how little we consider a sin to be, it will corrupt and make our services/offerings unacceptable to God. Perhaps, honey was also forbidden for the same reason. But both were allowed in the offering of first fruits (v.12).
On the other hand, salt was mandatory for all grain offerings (vs.13). Salt reminds us of the permanence of God’s covenant (Numbers 18:19) and our role in the world (Matthew 5:13).

Dear Father, purge me of every of sin (yeast), so that my services and offerings will be acceptable to you and a blessing to my generation.
