Topic: God sees all
Opening Prayer: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
Scripture: Psalm 11:1-7
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
It is dangerous to allow our ailing situations to compel us to focus more on what our enemy is doing rather than on what the Lord is doing. If you find yourself in a position of authority for example, don’t be surprised if you receive advice to seek ‘protection’ against human and spiritual enemies by arming yourself with some “juju” (that is, charms like talisman and amulet) or joining secret society. Such advice may be coming from friends and loved ones out of deep love for us and desire for our safety, but we must refuse such advice bluntly.
We must never run helter-skelter, but trust in and count on our God (v.1; compare Psalm 121:2). The picture of total collapse of standards and utter hopelessness in vs.2–3 reflects the insecurity, terrorism and fallen moral standards in our societies today. David’s faith was however unshaken because of his deep knowledge of God (v.4). We must be rooted in God’s word and know God deeply if we are to be victorious over trials and storms of life (see 2 Peter 3:17-18a).
The Lord sees all the activities of both the righteous and the wicked. Nothing is hidden from His eyes (v.4; see also Hebrews 4:13). David is deeply aware of this, hence his unshaken faith in God. What other things are said about God in vs.5–7? Notice how God will punish the wicked (v.6; cf. Psalm 9:16-17).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• May every test or challenge be an opportunity for me to grow in faith, O Lord!
• Pray for Christians who are being persecuted as a result of their faith to have courage and perseverance. Pray for God,s speedy intervention and help.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 106:4; Zech. 13-14; Luke 24:1-35
