TOPIC: Praise the Lord – But Why?
Opening Prayer: Grant me grace dear Lord to apply what you will teach me today as I read this passage. Psalms 135:1-21

This Psalm appeals to servants of the Lord to praise Him – and that includes us. It also gives three reasons for doing so, and they all apply to us too. (a) Vs.3,5, 13: We praise God because of who He is. How is this spelt out in these verses? Supremely, this is what makes Him worthy of praise, regardless of whatever personal or collective experience we may have of Him. Whether we know Him or not, whether we exist or not, He is God nonetheless. (b) Vs.6-7: We should praise Him because of the things He does in the world He has made.
V.6 puts it excellently well, and v.7 follows up with specific examples. How different He is from the gods of the nations, (vs.15-18)! Notice God’s sovereignty (v. 6; Psalm 115: 3). (c) Vs.8-12: We praise Him for the things He had done and continues to do for us. The people of Israel were called upon to bless the name of the Lord for delivering them out of slavery in Egypt.
Take a moment to reflect on the things the Lord has done for you, your family and your church and praise Him for each of them.

• So what? When people say, “Praise the Lord!” do they really consider the reasons for praising the Lord or they only use it as a slogan?
