Observe the painful experiences of Jesus in this passage, and how scriptures were fulfilled in each case (vs.23, 24, 28-30 cf. Psalm 22:16b,18; 69:21; Isaiah 53:12b). Fulfilling God’s will for our lives may sometimes involve frightful pains and a costly price to pay – especially in communities and societies that are hostile to the gospel.
The inscription on the cross, “Jesus of Nazareth, the king of the Jews” (19:19) was an irony, yet it was true. Jesus is King and Saviour of the Jews, Gentiles, and the whole world (1 John 2:1-2). ‘God made Him who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in Him, we might become the righteousness of God’ (2 Corinthians 5:21). All this explains the reason the day is called Good Friday.
What lessons are there for us in vs.25-27? Jesus demonstrates that it is important to value our families. Note that He entrusted His mother’s welfare to a friend and not a blood brother. Can Jesus trust you as a friend to whom he can commit what is dear to Him?

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to fulfil your purpose for my life and finish the work you have entrusted into my hand, just like you accomplished yours.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Joshua 3:7
“And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.”

• His prevailing power that is sustaining our nation as one entity.
• His miraculous provision amidst the economic hardship in the nation.
PRAY FOR:
• God to reach out in mercy to redeem our land from wickedness.
• God to pardon the iniquities of the leadership of the nation. • The restoration of His glory for spiritual revival on the church.
• A divine encounter for the ministers of the gospel to declare God’s counsel on the pulpit without fear or favour.
