Topic: The House Built Upon the Sand

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.

Scripture: 1 Kings 1:41–53

Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Message: The house that is built with saliva will be destroyed by mere dew (African adage). Adonijah started off his political plans by throwing a party. He attracted the people with food and drink. What an example of many of our political aspirants today. When the reality came, none of the feasting group members retained loyal and enduring followership. They all scattered in different directions leaving him alone to sort out his problem.

What Adonijah did in v.50 by grasping the horns of the altar was an act appealing for protection and forgiveness. Solomon showed mercy. He put Adonijah under house arrest (v.53). He had the option of executing the coup leaders, but he did not. What a good way of starting his reign!

Africa needs leaders who are merciful and forgiving so that the many conflicts in our continent would come to an end. It was characteristic of David to praise God for the blessing of seeing his successor on the throne (v.48). Remember to thank God when he blesses you in any way.
