Scripture Union Daily Guide 28 April 2026 | OUTLINE
Have you ever felt lonely, betrayed and abandoned? What happened, and how did you handle it? Read 2 Timothy 4:10-15 again. Who were the people Paul mentioned, and what can we learn from their actions, especially Alexander the coppersmith? At this time, Paul was in prison and needed the encouragement of his companions so much, but that was when some of them chose to leave him. One of them, Demas, left for the wrong reason. He fell in love with the world and forgot his first love for Christ and the gospel. The love of this world and the things of the world will strangulate our love for Christ (Matthew 13:22; 1 John 2:15-17).
Paul experienced loneliness, betrayal, and hardship, but instead of being bitter, he trusted God and remained focused on his mission. Like Paul, sometimes, in our faith journey, we might face abandonment and betrayal. We must lean on God and stand firm on His promises (2 Timothy 4:16-18). He will always send us people like Luke, Timothy, Mark, Priscila, Aquila, Onesiphorus and others that Paul mentioned in this passage. Earlier in their missionary journey, Mark had caused the team to split (Acts 15:36-41). What can we learn from Paul’s final remark about him (2 Timothy 4:11b)?
