Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th February 2023 MESSAGE

Jesus’ warning about causing little ones who believe Him to sin (v.42) applies to all who are children of the kingdom, especially young believers. Causing such to stumble or discouraging them has very severe consequence. Identify ways people can cause believers to stumble or fall. Consider the following:

The Millstone on the neck: is a form of Greek and Roman punishment. It indicates severe consequences in this life.

Hell:It is three times stated here that fire in hell will never quench or extinguish. Punishment for sin is eternal.

Worm: Referring to real consciousness and life of the individual who goes to hell. Double or more illustration of this magnitude underscores its extreme importance. V.50: There is no way to renew salt that has lost its saltiness. We must therefore continue to positively preserve and sweeten the world in which we live lest we become useless and irrelevant. In which ways can we ensure we do not lose our saltiness? How do we cut off the sources of sin in our lives? Paul prescribes the following: Crucify the old man (Colossians 3:5-9).
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14).
Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
Also see 1 Peter 2:1 for Peter’s counsel.
