Scripture Union Daily Guide 27th January 2026 — Outline

Jesus usually makes His truth plain to those who are eager to hear and obey Him (Luke 6:27). We are required to uphold a standard of life that is above that of the world. Jesus demands our love, prayer, extension of our goodness to all, even our enemies. He instructs that we should not take revenge as opposed to our present day “back to sender” prayers among some Christians.

It should be noted that Jesus did not teach what He did not practise. He loved His enemies, and so Christians must love their enemies! Jesus was kind to those who hated Him, and we must do likewise! Jesus prayed for the forgiveness of those who abused Him and nailed Him to the cross; we must pray likewise even for those who hurt us. God is kind to the unthankful and the wicked; God’s children must likewise show kindness to them. Christians must model the lifestyle of Jesus as we follow His example.

It can rightly be said that these standards are too high for anyone to attain, (e.g. Luke 6:29-30). Thankfully, we do not have to do it in our own human strength, but the Holy Spirit helps us as we grow more and more in faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We should remember that the only bible many around us will read is our lives. Are we living lives that commend Jesus Christ to unbelievers?
