SCRIPTURE READING
Luke 11:5-13
5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 27 February 2026 | MESSAGE
Today’s passage is a story to illustrate the need for persistence in prayer. The big lesson is that our heavenly Father is a willing and patient listener. He is ready to answer the prayer of those who are obedient to Him and pray consistently according to His will (Hebrews 10:36; 1 John 5:14). Jesus taught us to continue in prayer until the answer comes.
Notice how emphatic the Lord was in Luke 11:9. There are times to ask, seek and knock. These are different levels in prayer to clarify the fact that we need persistence in our prayers if we are to prevail (Psalm 50:15; Mark 11:24; John 14:13-14). What encouragement do you find in Luke 11:10 as you persist in your prayer project?
Comparing the parallel statement in Matthew 7:11 with Luke 11:13; we discover that Luke talked about giving the Holy Spirit to those who ask, and Matthew talked about good things. The truth is that good things come through the Holy Spirit. We must persist to prevail, if we are expecting good things about the kingdom and in our lives today. Pray! Pray! Wait! Wait! Be patient and the answer will come. As you persist, you will prevail.
Food for Thought
For everyone that asks, receives, he that seeks, finds and he that knocks, the door shall be opened unto him.
