• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th December 2020 Message:
Matthew quoted at least three Old Testament prophecies today to support each of the movements of the baby Jesus (vv.15 (Hosea 11:1), 17–18 (Jeremiah 31:15) and 23). One remarkable thing for each of us to know is Joseph’s receptiveness to the special revelations God gave him concerning his family. He could have been carefree about it all because, after all, he was not the father of this baby. He was indeed a righteous man as the Bible remarked. This is a great lesson for all family heads.
We should be people who receive directly from God for all members of our household. No death or mishap should be allowed to befall our wives and children. We should learn to promptly obey God–given revelation and not take matters for granted. Killing all baby boys within and around Bethlehem was nothing to King Herod, whose only aim was preserving his throne. Does that sound familiar?
Consider politicians, business people, civil servants, even churches, where much bloodshed occurs merely to protect personal interests. Herod was mortal and died shortly afterwards, but notice the sad impact of such wickedness in vv.18, 22.
