Ezekiel prophesied against the mountains of Israel because they were the “high places” where idols were worshipped. Are there sites of idolatry in your environment? The message in this chapter is that Judah’s idolatry will surely call down God’s judgment (vs.1–7, 11–12). What will happen? What are the idols that people have today?
However, there is a ray of hope in this prophecy of darkness (vs.8–10). God would spare a remnant, but only after they have learned some hard lessons. How significant is this ray of hope to Christians today? Must God break a person in order to bring him or her to true repentance? No, He would rather like us to cooperate with Him. The people needed a new attitude, but they would not change until God had broken their hearts with painful humiliation, suffering, and shameful defeat.
Does your heart long for God to change those areas that displease Him, or will God have to break your heart first? The repeating of the phrase “then they will know that I am the Lord” about 65 times in Ezekiel’s book, was never to take revenge, but to impress upon the people the truth that the Lord is the only true and living God.

• Pray that God will help you to be free from all forms of idolatry, so you will not be ashamed at His appearing.
• Thank God for the press houses and publishing houses that primarily devote to publishing Christian literature and related materials.
