Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th January 2021 Message:
Take another look at the Notes for Sunday, January 17 to see, once again, the place of blood in human life. This is the reason it is such a big thing to kill a person for any reason. As still happens in some cultures today, the Law required close relations to avenge the life of anyone who was murdered. This is the Avenger of Blood, (v.6).
However, what if it was not premeditated murder but a freak accident, (v.5)? It is possible that the Avenger is not aware of all the details, and he could end up killing an innocent man! It is for that reason that the Law provided the cities of refuge. The person responsible for such killing runs to the city and gives himself up to the rulers of the city.
A proper investigation would then be carried out, and his guilt or innocence determined. What was the punishment for guilt, (vs.11-13)? It is not just the human body, but the eternal soul which our sins condemn to death. That is why we run to Jesus Christ Himself as our “City of Refuge.”

• Pray today that the shedding of blood may seize in our land. • Thank God for His love, making the way for the gospel train to keep moving on in spite of oppositions. Pray against laws in Europe, U.S.A. and Canada that are repressing Christians, under the false guise of freedom, diversity and inclusiveness.
