SU DAILY GUIDE MESSAGE FOR 25TH NOVEMBER 2023
God speaks here against the rebellion of His people. Instead of turning to Him for guidance and security, they went to Egypt (v.2). Vs.6-7 describe the futility of their effort to win Egypt’s favour. Egypt here represents the world from which we as God’s children have been redeemed. God expects us to trust Him in hard times because the world can offer no good solutions. See 1 John 2:15-17. Notice what God says will happen to those who trust in man and despise His word (vs.3-5, 12-14).
The children of Israel, like many of us today, would rather listen to false prophets (v.10) than sound biblical teaching from God’s servants. False teaching, no matter how polished, can only lead to spiritual bondage. Only the truth can set us free. See John 8:32. The way out of our waywardness is found in v.15 (note this). We need to repent and return to the Lord so that He may direct our ways aright. Thank God because He remains gracious despite all the stubbornness displayed by His people. He promises to have mercy on them (v.18). However, we must never take His love for granted because He is a God of justice.
