Scripture Union Daily Guide – 23 September 2025 | OUTLINE
This is Eliphaz’s third and final speech to Job. He suggested three things to Job, but all were still centred on the wrong diagnosis of the cause of Job’s problem, that his suffering is a result of God’s punishment for his sin.
First, he suggested that Job should not think that God cared about anyone’s righteousness (Job 22:1-3). How would you respond to such proclamation? When God’s people do right, it brings glory to God and blessings to them.
Read Psalms 147:11; Colossians 3:17 and Proverbs 14:34. Eliphaz also suggested that Job must have committed so many sins that God decided to punish him (Job 22:5). But he was wrong. Job was a righteous and blameless man (Job 1:1).
Job 22:6-20 is a catalogue of sins that Eliphaz brought against Job. But these were all false accusations because Job never did any of these. Eliphaz also suggested that Job should submit to God, accept instructions from God, return to God, and remove wickedness (idols) from his tent, then his life would be better, and God would bless him (Job 22:21-30).
Again, Eliphaz was wrong because Job was an innocent man, very true to God (Job 1:8), who was honestly expressing his dilemma to God.
To be of help to those who are suffering, prayerfully investigate their matters well in order not to add salt to their injury.
