Notice how Solomon addresses God before he started his prayer of dedication (v.23). God keeps the covenant which he makes with his people. His steadfast love is unfailing for all who are careful to walk faithfully before him. In v.26, Solomon appealed to God to confirm his promise.
In our prayers let us remember to appeal to God’s promises. Read carefully vv.27–40. What are the various subjects of prayer? What lessons can we learn from this style of praying to enhance our personal prayers? It is instructive to subdivide our prayers into sub–topics.
This enables more detailed attention to each area of prayer. It also helps to avoid repetitive praying. Check Matthew 6:7–8 for what Christ Jesus says about prayer. King Solomon was particularly appealing to God to listen to the prayers of his people and to forgive them when they are sorry for their sins. There could be various hindrances to answered prayer. We read of one such hindrance in 1 Peter 3:7. Can you find some more?
