TOPIC: Confront Every Unwholesome Teaching with Sound Doctrine
OPENING PRAYER: Oh Lord, grant me spiritual insight into the truth of your word as I study it.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Titus 1:10-16
Question for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 20th December 2023 MESSAGE:
Although Titus appeared to be timid like Timothy (2 Timothy 1:7), Paul charges him in v.11 to confront every unhealthy teaching with sound doctrine, just like a physician must attack infection and diseases.
Read vs.10-14 and notice particularly the attested character of the Cretans in general (v.12). This no doubt highlights the big task that confronts Titus in this city. Paul used this familiar testimony to make the point that Titus’ ministry and leadership were very much needed. He must stand strongly against the evil in the society and prevent it from entering the church. Christians must stand firm in the faith and against false teachings (vs.13b,14). The way to stop false doctrine is by proclaiming sound biblical teaching. (To learn more about false teachers and false prophets in the church, read 2 Peter 2:1-3. Take note of their characteristics and what their end will be.)
We must refuse to compromise the freedom we have in Christ. God has purified us and cleansed our conscience through Christ’s blood. Our focus is no longer on what we eat or don’t eat but in living lives of holiness (vs.15,16).
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
