Believers need to express their thankfulness to God for giving them salvation by standing firm to show acceptance of this wonderful gift. Paul shows the Thessalonians that they found salvation through the proclamation of the word to them (2 Thessalonians 2:14) so they needed to stand firm guided by the word of God and worshipping God as instructed by Paul and his companions. Obedience to the word of God and practising it in our lives would help us to stand firm and serve God with a clear conscience having the confidence that we would inherit eternal life as Paul observed (2 Timothy 4:7,8). Note how Paul addressed his Thessalonian converts:
(a) Brothers (2 Thessalonians 1:3, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Thessalonians 3:1),
(b) Chosen to be saved (2 Thessalonians 2:13),
(c) Called, to share in Christ’s glory (2 Thessalonians 2:14).
Can these describe you? In recognition of God’s role in keeping them, Paul prayed for them. Note the things he prayed about on their behalf (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 3:5). The spread and impact of the gospel is one of the means to stem the tide of ungodliness and promote Christian stability. Unfortunately, some people whom Paul described as wicked, evil, and faithless, work against the gospel.
