OPENING PRAYER
Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name

SCRIPTURE READING
Luke 23:1-12 (NKJV)

 Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting [a]the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

3 Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?”

He answered him and said, “It is as you say.”

4 So Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.”

5 But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.”

6 When Pilate heard [b]of Galilee, he asked if the Man were a Galilean. 7 And as soon as he knew that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time. 8 Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him. 9 Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. 10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. 11 Then Herod, with his [c]men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. 12 That very day Pilate and Herod became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.

QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st April 2026 | OUTLINE

The religious leaders knew that they could not sentence Jesus to death because the Roman law prohibited the Jews from executing criminals. So, they pressurized Pilate to do that for them. Pilate was known to be ruthless, cruel and insensitive to the feelings of people. But in the trial of Jesus, he found Jesus’ innocent of the accusations against Him (Luke 23:4). Notice the three-point accusation levelled against Jesus in Luke 23:2.

Pilate did not want to take responsibility for his decision. Instead, he tried to push it over to Herod and used that to build political favour with Herod (Luke 23:7,12). Notice Pilate’s question to Jesus in Luke 23:3. Maybe he was being sarcastic. But he could see that Jesus was not pretending to be a king.

Meanwhile, Herod selfishly wanted Jesus to entertain him (Luke 23:8,9). Why did Jesus refuse to respond to Herod’s questions (Proverbs 26:4)? Herod was more interested in entertainment than knowing the Truth. How often do people attend services or programs mainly to seek to be entertained than worship ‘in spirit and in truth’? Their unjust conclusion about and treatment of Jesus made them friends for the wrong reason.

INSIGHT
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

HYMN: HE DIED FOR THEE

1. The Son of God was crucified,
Upon the cross the Savior died;
On Calvary His life He gave,
That He thy precious soul might save.

Refrain: He died for thee, He died for thee,
Upon the cross He died for thee;
O come to Him, O come today,
Let Jesus bear thy sins away.

He gave His life to rescue thee,
And He would now thy Savior be;
Give Him thy heart, and thou shalt know
The joy of Heaven here below.

2. Yes, come to Him who died for thee,
And let Him now thy Savior be;
Receive Him now, and thou shalt find
The chains of sin no longer bind.

3. He died for thee! O shall it be,
He came and died in vain for thee?
Nay, rather, come to Him today
And let Him wash thy sins away.

CLOSING PRAYER
Pray against the injustice we find in the church and in our nations today.

PRAYER OF FAITH
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Isaiah 12:2

ONE YEAR BIBLE READING PLAN
