Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th June 2023 MESSAGE:
Jehoshaphat was a good King, who followed the Lord. It is, however, unfortunate that his son, Jehoram who succeeded him, was a bad King. He did not follow the example of his father. Instead, he followed the bad examples of the Kings of Israel. How did the corrupting influence of Ahab and Jezebel creep into Judah? (Check v.18).
It is doubtful if Jehoshaphat anticipated this kind of ungodly outcome when he was arranging a marriage alliance with the house of Ahab. We need to be careful and ensure that the kind of friendship, alliance, and partnership we enter into, or to which we introduce our children, are holy alliances that will not bring shame and disgrace on the name of Christ and our families in future (Cf. 1 Corinthians 6:14-16). Let the glory of God be the overriding reason for the choices you make.
Why did God tolerate the wicked Jehoram and preserved his kingdom (v.19)? What does this teach you about God and his covenant promises? Note that it was the faithful example of David and God’s covenant with him that made God to preserve Judah. And the evil lifestyle of Ahab also continued to affect generations after him (v.27).
