Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 February 2026 | OUTLINE
After eight days that Jesus discussed with His disciples about the nature of Messiahship, He took Peter, James, and John with Him to the mountain to pray. Moses and Elijah who represented the Law and the Prophet respectively met with Jesus, who came to fulfil the Law and the Prophets on the mountain and spoke about Jesus’ “departure” (the Greek is exodus – the deliverance of men from the slavery of sin) that He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem (Galatians 1:4; Colossians 1:13; Hebrews 2:14-15). When the sleepy disciples woke up and saw Moses and Elijah leaving, notice what Peter said in Luke 9:33. Why did he say so? See Matthew 16:22.
The Father interrupted Peter, overshadowed them all and spoke out of the cloud, confirming His approval of Jesus with a command, “Hear Him” (Luke 9:34,35; Luke 3:21-22). Transfiguration is a wonderful experience that comes and goes, but personal “transfiguration” comes from inner renewal, so we no longer conform to the world (Romans 12:1-2). The Lord transforms us from within as we fellowship with Him in prayer (Luke 9:28) and constant meditation on His word (2 Corinthians 3:18).
