Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 March 2024, Monday Devotional Message

TOPIC: The Betrayal And Arrest of Jesus Christ

OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: JOHN 18:1-14

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

DAILY GUIDE 18 MARCH 2024 MESSAGE:

Have you ever been betrayed by someone you trust and love so much? How did you feel? Jesus Christ was betrayed by one of His disciples. Notice when and where Jesus was arrested (vs.1-3). Jesus had finished praying and was in a place of solitude, a place to which He often retreats. He was arrested to face the cross at a retreat before the Father. As a believer, your strength to face challenges and temptations is in your relationship with the Lord. Like Jesus, learn to retreat before Him to draw strength.

What can we learn from Jesus’ action in vs.6-8 and 10-11? Note that if Jesus had not willingly submitted Himself, the soldiers would not have been able to arrest Him. It was therefore not really an ‘arrest’ the way a criminal would be arrested, but willing submission to God’s will. What do you think of the action of Peter and Jesus’ reaction (vs.10-11)? Three times Jesus had prayed for this cup to be taken away from Him (Matthew 26:36-46). The Father didn’t. So, He will not let anything stop Him from doing the Father’s will.

Practice/Word Application
And so? When was the last time you went on a retreat before the Lord? Develop and rekindle the flame and make it a habit henceforth.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Lord, help me to remain true and totally committed to doing your will even at my personal cost.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 1 Chronicles 4:10
