Reflection
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 December 2020 Message:
Sin enslaves. It denies one the joy of salvation. We must avoid it completely, (vv.1–4). Our profession of Christ as Saviour implies we have died with him to the basic principles of this world. Standing firm against the devil’s temptations is not a simple thing. It requires a strong–willed heart backed by reading of God’s Word and prayerful lifestyle.
The book of 1 Peter 5:8&9 gives us further recipe on this subject. By feeding on God’s Word, we will no longer be infants tossed back and forth by the waves of doctrine. We will live in spiritual liberty. See the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:11–12. What is the most important thing mentioned in v.6?
For anyone to participate in a race, be it in running one hundred metres or ten thousand metres, the rules of the game must apply from the starting point to the finishing line. Only then can one expect a prize. The race to heaven is no different. There is a need for zeal and consistency (vv.7–9). Notice the warning in v.10 – What did Jesus say about this in Matthew 18:6?
⁂ Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Practice/Word Application
• Meditation: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Cor 9:24( NIV)
Prayer Points
• Dear Lord Jesus, I thank you for helping me to embrace the free gift of salvation through faith alone, in you alone.
• Pray against harmful books and multimedia materials that masquerade as Christian materials.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Numbers 14:17
