Scripture Union Daily Guide 17 May 2026 | Outline
This is the shortest psalm and chapter in the whole Bible. Despite its shortness, it contains a profound message of a universal call to worship God. In Psalms 117:1, the Psalmist calls for all nations, even the Gentile, to praise the Lord and all peoples to extol Him (Psalms 117:1). This shows that our God is the Lord of all the earth and the King over all nations, races, tribes and people. He is the Creator and those who refuse to praise Him are being rebellious (Psalms 2:1-6). What two reasons do the Psalmists give why every nation and people should praise God (Psalms 117:2)?
God’s great love and enduring faithfulness are universal and eternal. He loves all the people of the earth, even when they have not acknowledged Him as their God. His plan of salvation is for everyone in every nation (John 3:16). God is faithful in providing for all His creatures. The attitude of the people does not affect His love for them (Matthew 5:43-45). How should knowing that God’s love extends to all people shape our view of worship and evangelism?
