TOPIC: The Atonement Money
OPENING PRAYER: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Exodus 30:1-16
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 3: Is there any command for me to obey?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 16th May 2023 MESSAGE:
Incense, (vs.1-10) symbolizes prayer, (compare Psalms 141:2; Revelations 8:3-4). This is one of God’s gracious provisions for meeting with us at the level of our needs (Hebrews 4:16). Notice the daily responsibility God gave to Aaron in vs.7-9. What caution can you see in v.9 and does that relate with what God requires from us today?
The atonement sacrifice was to be done once a year and it must be holy before the Lord. No other atonement is required today – the death of Jesus Christ brought an end to the yearly atonement (refer to Hebrews 10:19-22)
Note that both the rich and the poor were to make the same offering during the census (vs.11-16). It was a ransom everyone could afford. Similarly, in Jesus Christ as our ransom before God, the rich do not have any advantage over the poor. At the foot of the cross, all are equal. Notice here that the poor were not exempted from paying because they were poor. In the same way, all of us should contribute, as we are able, to the Lord’s work.
Practice/Word Application
So what? We should be eternally grateful that Jesus paid the debt of sin that we could never have paid (see Psalm 49:7-8).

HYMN: Happy The home When God Is There
1. Happy the home when God is there,
And love fills every breast;
When one their wish, and one their prayer,
And one their heav’nly rest.
2. Happy the home where Jesus’ name
Is sweet to every ear;
Where children early speak His fame,
And parents hold Him dear.
3. Happy the home where prayer is heard,
And praise each day does rise;
Where parents love the sacred Word
And all its wisdom prize.
4. Lord, let us in our homes agree
This blessèd peace to gain;
Unite our hearts in love to Thee,
And love to all will reign.
