TOPIC: Consecration

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Exodus 13:1-16

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 3: Is there any command for me to obey?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 14th February 2023 MESSAGE

When the Lord passed through the land and killed all the firstborn sons in Egypt, “from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well” (Exodus 12:29), the firstborn among the Israelites were spared, hence, the declaration in v.2.

To consecrate means to set apart or devote completely to God and His purposes. Because the firstborn of the Egyptian animals also died, the dedication of the firstborn of Israel also included those of the animals. The rules for observing this command are given in vs.11-16. Note that parents had a responsibility to teach their children why they redeem the first born. If we do not teach the next generation the Word of God, the Church will die. All Christians today are to consecrate themselves to God (see Romans 12:1-2).

Notice the strict prohibition of yeast of leaven in the preparation of the meals for the celebration of the Passover. What are the lessons we learn from this (compare 1 Corinthians 5:7-8)? This feast was to remind the people that they were leaving the old life behind and entering into a new way of living. “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness” (2 Timothy 2:19c).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

YOUTH CAMPAIGN IN SCHOOLS
KEEP YOURSELF PURE

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
– 1 Corinthians 3:16

THANK GOD FOR:
► Reserving blessings for all His children who are pure in heart.
► Providing His word to guide us and our youths on how to keep our ways pure.
► Deliberate plans to take the campaign to the youths in schools.

PRAY FOR:
► The deliberately planned programme to affect the lives of the youths especially as it affects purity.
► Revival among our youths that they begin to thirst after God and His ways.
► Increased obedience to the truth as they sincerely seek God out of a pure heart.
► That our youths will not allow themselves to be used as political thugs and election box snatchers thereby terminating their lives unduly.

PRAY AGAINST:
· All forms of deception that make our youths act unnecessarily tough.
· All unwise decisions and actions that may eventually lead to their destruction.
