TOPIC: The Priest’s Consecration

OPENING PRAYER: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Exodus 29:1-26

Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 13th May 2023 MESSAGE:

A young nation like Israel that is growing in a world that is full of idols needs a form of centralised and standardised worship, so people get used to the right way to worship their God. The central worship and rituals draw a distinct line separating Israel from their pagan neighbours.

Notice the rituals the priests must go through before they are ready to serve in the Temple. First, they were washed and then clothed with holy garments (vs.4-6, 8-9), depicting holiness and righteousness as a requirement for quality service to God. They were then anointed with holy oil (v.7), depicting the need to be endued with the power of the Holy Spirit for effective service.

Then were three sacrifices (vs.10-24). First was the “sin offering”, intended for the forgiveness of sin and restoration to God. Second was the “burnt offering” signifying their absolute dedication to God and His service. Third is the “peace offering”, a sign of right spiritual relationship with God.

What is the significance of the rituals in v.20? God’s servants must listen attentively to Him, promptly obey, go wherever He leads, and faithfully do His work.

Practice/Word Application
And So? Is consecration for all believers, or only for “ordained” ministers? Why?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

HYMN: What Can Wash Away My Sin
1. What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Refrain
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

2. For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

3. Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

4. This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Closing Prayer
Oh Lord, thank you for the blood of Jesus by which I have been consecrated to walk and work with you.
