Topic: Universal Praise Unto The Lord
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you sanctify my spirit, soul and body as I read your word in Jesus name.
Scripture: Psalm 148:1-14
Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any command for me to obey?
The Psalmist’s expression of praise spans the entire universe, from the celestial unseen world to the terrestrial visible world. The heavenly bodies – the sun, the moon and the stars are all commanded to praise the Lord God. The earth (dry land), the sea and all animate and inanimate objects in them also are to praise Him in their own ways.
Find out from vs.5 and 6 why these must praise the Lord. God brought all these into being. Both the living and non-living creatures are all entirely under God’s command and control. Now read carefully vs.11-12. Kings and rulers and all peoples on the earth are invited to praise the name of the Lord. God alone is to be praised (v.13).
Praise must never go to idols or created objects but to God alone. Finally, God’s covenant people are urged to praise Him (v.14). The First Covenant group of people is Israel. The New Covenant people of God – Christians – saved by the blood of Christ Jesus should praise the Lord.
Practice/Word Application
• And so? The entire created order is commanded to praise the Lord. You and I saved by grace have even more reasons to praise the Lord.
