Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 August 2020
Topic: God to the Rescue!
Opening Prayer: My dear heavenly Father, as I study your word, let it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Today’s Scripture: Acts 7:30-43
Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• What is God revealing to me in this passage?
When it was time for God to deliver his people, notice what he told Moses in v.34. To what attribute of God does this point (Psalm 46:1)? Psalm 50:14,15 confirms God’s ever–readiness to help us, but with an important condition.
Whenever we face rejection because of our faith or mission like Moses, what consolation can we draw from vv.35,36 and Matthew 21:42? Stephen reminded the council of the covenant God established between the Jewish nation and himself, a covenant whose continued validity depended on their obedience (v.37). It is empty religion to boast about being God’s children while continuously disobeying him. Only those who hold on to Jesus’ teaching are truly his disciples (John 8:31). Since they wouldn’t obey God, their condition became similar to what Paul describes in Romans 1:26–28.

The Jewish leaders had not only rejected God, they also rejected his Son, thus missing out on the salvation God brought to his people–not through Moses but through his only begotten Son, Jesus. To reject Jesus is to reject life, for in him is life, which is the light for all mankind (John 1:4).

Practice/Word Application
• And so: Let your word and action reflect your faith in Christ.
Rescue the perishing
1. Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.
Refrain
Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
2. Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
Chords that were broken will vibrate once more.
