Topic: The Believer, The Grace And The Spiritual Gifts
Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.
Scripture: Ephesians 4:7-16
Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Outline: So many factors could cause the individual, the family or Church to be spiritually disoriented, disunited, immature, unstable, and unfulfilled. However, nothing can compare with what Christ has done to restore and establish mankind, spiritually and morally. Reflect on vs.7,8 & 11; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 2:11-14 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Mention some benefits of being in an intimate relationship with Christ.
Is it not marvellous that the grace of God has caused us to cease from struggling with sin, Satan, and with the other predicaments of life (2 Peter 1:3)? Meditate on vs.8-10! That song prophetically portrayed Jesus’ humble, self-emptying, atoning sacrifice, plus His victorious exaltation in Heaven. What Christ did is a feat we should always treasure. It should provoke us to always appreciate, worship, and serve Him lovingly, humbly, selflessly, faithfully and with total commitment. Note that each of us is given grace according to the measure Christ’s gift (v. 7).
What does this mean (v.8 cf. Rom. 12: 3 – 6a)? Use v. 11; Romans 12:6b-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 28, to identify the spiritual gifts released to believers for effective service. Look also at vs.12-16 and note the results we could achieve through the spiritual gifts bestowed on us. Our Lord has given us these gifts for the benefit of the church (vs.11-13).
Practice/Word Application
• Thought: What more do I need above God’s grace to ensure that my life is pleasing to God?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Help me, dear Lord Jesus, to use the grace and gifts you have given me to serve you and the church!
• Thank God in anticipation of the dawn of a productive and happy week.
Prayer for the week
Pray against corrupt practices and injustice in our land. Pray and believe God for grace to resist evil and to be an exemplary Christian in all you do.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Revelation 1:3; Josh. 1-3; Luke 14:25-35
