Scripture Union Daily Guide – 10 November 2025 OUTLINE
By divine providence, God planted Israel firmly like a choice vine (Jeremiah 2:21). What was Israel’s response in return (Jeremiah 2:20)? Instead of loyalty they deliberately turned against God and embraced devilish practices. So, they became a corrupt wild vine (Jeremiah 2:21b), and their sins became indelible that it could not be washed with plenty soap and water (Jeremiah 2:22). When confronted with their sins, how did Israel respond to God’s charges (Jeremiah 2:23a)? Notice those who were indicted by God (Jeremiah 2:26-28).
Read Jeremiah 2:27-28 again. Why do you think intelligent people could bend so low to worship and honour objects they made from woods and stones and even refer to them, as a father? What will be their reward for this, according to Jeremiah 2:26,36-37? Observe that in times of trouble, they turned to God for help and not to their idols. What an irony! Is this not exactly how we also behave? God is not happy when we shift our trust from Him to idols (things of this world) and yet claim to be innocent of any sin (Jeremiah 2:31-37). The consequences of such an attitude are judgment, disappointment, disgrace, and frustration.
And So
Reflect on, and outline ways that we behave like the Israelites today. Decide to repent and not defend your wrong attitudes when God and His word confront you with them.
