27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.

34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.

35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.

36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION
►Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
►Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
►Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 March 2026 | OUTLINE

Why did Jesus describe the Jews as a wicked generation (Luke 11:29)? Jesus called the Jews a wicked generation not because they asked for a sign, but for their hypocrisy and unbelief. Jesus had performed enough miracles to have convinced them that He was the Messiah, but rather than believe Him, they challenged and accused Him falsely (Luke 11:14-16). They asked for a sign just as an excuse to justify their unbelief (see John 3:19). Is our generation any different? By the sign of Jonah (Luke 11:30), Jesus was referring to His death and resurrection as the greatest evidence that He is the Messiah (cf. Matthew 12:38-40).

Luke 11:31-32 shows that in comparison to the Queen of Sheba and the Ninevites, the Jews had a greater privilege to know and believe in Jesus, but they squandered it (Luke 11:31-32). What opportunities do we have to know and embrace the Messiah in this generation? How are we utilizing them?

Read Luke 11:33-36 again and take note that the light (God’s word) has no problem; the problem is always with the eye (our hearts).

INSIGHT
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

HYMN: NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD

1. What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Refrain: Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

2. For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

3. Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

4. This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

5. Now by this I’ll overcome—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I’ll reach my home—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

6. Glory! Glory! This I sing—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
All my praise for this I bring—
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

CLOSING PRAYER
