TOPIC: A Day with Joni ~ Come, Follow
Jesus said to them, “Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. – Mark 1:17-18
Jesus said, “Come follow me.” These men dropped everything and followed Him. Who among us could do that? I’m a planner. I like schedules, lists, and predictability. I could hear myself saying, “Now? Can I have a trip itinerary first? Where are we going? What should I wear? What should I pack? I’ve got a lot to think about, here. Drop everything? Seriously?”
When reading this passage, I am astonished these men dropped everything, and did it without delay. I started to prayerfully ask myself, “What is keeping me from dropping everything to follow Him? What am I unwilling to leave behind, either consciously or subconsciously?” He’s been showing me – these things are nothing in comparison! Beloved, we can’t say we’re disciples with lip service. When we follow Him, and we follow what He is and who He is. We follow peace, we follow victory, we follow healing, we follow grace, and most importantly … we follow love. It’s worth it. He’s worth it. You coming?
Gracious Lord, thank You for loving me and for calling me to follow Jesus. Will You help me identify the things in my life which hinder my pursuit of You? I confess, they are temporal and lesser affections. I want to follow You with all my heart, today, tomorrow and always. Amen.
