TOPIC: Interpretation of Tongues
So, when you pray in your private prayer language, don’t hoard the experience for yourself. Pray for the insight and ability to bring others into that intimacy. – 1 Corinthians 14:13 (MSG)
Paul instructs the church not to speak in tongues without giving the interpretation. Paul says, So if you speak in a way that no one can understand, what’s the point of opening your mouth? There are many languages in the world and they all mean something to someone. But if I don’t understand the language, it’s not going to do me much good. It’s no different with you. Since you’re so eager to participate in what God is doing, why don’t you concentrate on doing what helps everyone in the church (1 Corinthians 14:9-12 MSG)?

Paul firmly believes that the Holy Spirit’s manifestation of spiritual gifts is for the benefit of the entire assembly (1 Corinthians 12:7). He does not say you should never speak in tongues. He stresses, however, that there should be an interpretation of the tongue when the saints assemble in a group, so that all can enjoy the revelation God is giving to the body of Christ.
Holy Spirit, give us the gifts of tongues and interpretation, as we assemble together, the body of Christ, so that we can receive revelation from God.
