TOPIC: The Gift of Tongues
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues as of fire, being distributed and resting on each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

Speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues are New Testament gifts first given by the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost to facilitate the quick spread of the Gospel to the nations. Another purpose of the gift of tongues is as a prayer language between you and God.

The Message Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:1-3 that you are sharing intimacies between you and God when you speak in tongues. It is a private prayer language to communicate with God. The spiritual benefit is that you may well be thwarting the plan of the adversary as you manifest the mysterious gift of tongues. No one else may understand this heavenly language, but God knows, and He acts. Tongues plus interpretation equals the gift of prophecy.
Holy Spirit, allow Your heavenly language to flow powerfully through me by way of the gift of tongues.
