LESSON FORTY THREE (43)
TOPIC: DRESSING
BIBLE TEXT: MATTHEW 22:1-14
[1]And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
[2]The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
[3]And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
[4]Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
[5]But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
[6]And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
[7]But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
[8]Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
[9]Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
[10]So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
[11]And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
[12]And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
[13]Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
[14]For many are called, but few are chosen.
MEMORY VERSE: Philippians 4:5 “Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand”.
LESSON AIM: To teach the teens the dressing that glorify God.
CENTRAL TRUTH: God want us to dress to glorify Him and not to dress like a harlot.
OPENING QUESTION: What is moderation in dressing?
INTRODUCTION: Dressing is basically about what we wear. When God made man in the beginning, the bible records that Adam and Eve were both naked and they were not ashamed Gen 2:25. But when sin entered the world, and man could no longer control their eyes, things changed. Gen 3:7 says “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so, they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves”.
Eventually, God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden of Eden. And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them. Gen 3:21. We see in the above narrative, that the sole purpose of dressing is to cover our nakedness. Other reasons include: to keep warm in cold and to look beautiful, Exodus 28:2. However, we see that dressing is culturally related, but the underlining importance of dressing must always be remembered.

2. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 …………………………
3. 1 Corinthians 10:31 …………………………
4. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 …………………………
C. WHAT YOU WEAR REFLECTS
1. The state of your heart
2. Your core values.
3. Whether you are God’s ambassador. It should not be difficult for people to identify us as Christians through our dressing.
4. Who you are. 1 Pet 2:9
5. Whether you are dressing with or without vanity and arrogance. Philippians 2:3.
DISCUSS: In church settings, discussions about modesty focus predominantly on female clothing. Why?
CONCLUSION: Since we have the mind of Christ, the subject of whether we dress modestly shouldn’t even be on our minds. We should be able to discern what modest clothing honours God. So, when we dress modestly, we show we are honouring God, we are at peace within us that our lifestyle is not causing any one to stumble. 1 Corinthians 8:12-13.
