OPENING PRAYER
Almighty Father, please deliver this generation from the sins and demons of adultery and fornication.
MEMORY VERSE: “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are”. – 1 Corinthians 3:17

Sexual immorality is any habit or act that contradicts God’s laid down plan, principle and practice concerning sexual behaviour. Adultery and fornication are forms of sexual immorality. Other forms of sexual immorality are homosexuality, lesbianism, bestialism, incest, rape, masturbation, pornography, lustful desires and immoral thoughts. Adultery and fornication and not just sins against God (1Corinthians 6:19-20) but also against one’s soul(1Peter 2:11) and body (1Corinthians 6:18). In this lesson, we shall attempt to understand the meaning and causes of adultery and fornication, consider their inherent dangers as well as the antidotes or remedies.

A. DESCRIPTION:
Question 1:
What do you understand by the term adultery?
Answers:
i. It is any illicit sexual relationship between a married person and other person(s) apart from spouse.
ii. It is illicit sexual relationship between a married person and someone that is engaged or betrothed.
iii. It is marital infidelity.
iv. It is the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19).
v. It is one of the ten commandments which God gave to the Israelite (Exodus 20:14).
vi. It is a sin punishable by death. (Leviticus 20:10; John 8:4-5).
vii. It emanates from the thought of the heart (Matthew 5:27-28)
viii. It is a lust of the eyes (2Peter 2:14).
Question 2:
What is Fornication? What about it?
Answers:
i. It is a sexual immorality or intercourse between unmarried couples.
ii. Temptation to commit fornication is very popular in the mordern society especially amount the youth. (1Corinthains 5:1).
iii. Believers must avoid falling into the temptation of fornication. (1Corinthains 10:12-13).

What are the likely causes of adultery and fornication
Answers:
i. Untamed lustful desires (James 1:13-14).
ii. Covetousness (Exodus 20:17).
iii. Lack of contentment with one’s spouse. (1Corinthians 7:2-5).
iv. Separation, divorce and remarriage. (Matthew 19:9; Romans 7:2-3).
v. Undefined relationship (1Corinthians 7:2).
vi. Prolonged courtship (1Corinthians 7:9).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1
Teacher should ask students to describe fornication and adultery and their causes.
DANGERS AND ANTIDOTES
Question 1:
What are the dangers of adultery and fornication?
Answers:
i. Loss of dignity and honour. (Proverbs 6:32-33).
ii. Divine curses and affliction. (Genesis 49:3-4).
iii. Diseases and unwanted pregnancies and untimely death.
iv. God’s judgement.(Hebrews 13:4).
v. Eternal destruction /separation from God (1Corinthians 6:9-10).
Question 2:
What are the antidotes for Fornication and adultery?
Answers:
i. Be conscious of the fact that both fornication and adultery are sin. (Genesis 39:9; Romans 6:13).
ii. Fear God abstain from sexual sins. (1Thessalonians 5:22; Genesis 39:10-12; 1Corinthians 6:18).
iii. Get married as soon as you are matured. (1Corinthians 7:2; Hebrews 13:4a).
iv. Avoid strange men and women in your marriage and be contended with each other. (1 Corinthians 7:3-5; Proverbs 5:18-20).
v. Meditate on the word of God and depend on the Holy Spirit. (Philippians 4:8,13).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2
Identify the dangers and solution to fornication and adultery?
SUMMARY
Flee fornication and adultery and save yourself from their consequences.
CONCLUSION
Sex before or outside marriage is totally forbidden by God (Ephesians 5:3). Saint must abstain from fornication (Acts 15:20, 29). Adultery as well as fornication kills.
CLOSING PRAYER
Almighty, Father, please help us to shut the gates of our hearts against fornication and adultery.
ASSIGNMENT
Mention five (5) benefits of fleeing from fornication and adultery.
