TOPIC: Power In His Word (2)

MEMORISE:
“The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” – (Matthew 8:8)

READ: Isaiah 55:11-13 (KJV)
11. So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

  1. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

  2. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

To fully appreciate the potency of God’s word, we need to carefully review the descriptions given to it in the Holy Scriptures. In the Old Testament, the word of God is seen as a word about, as well as one from God. In effect, the word of God refers to what God says and at the same time, it describes God – His essence and attributes.

The New Testament presents the Word of God as a person – the second person of the Trinity, that is, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was with the Father from the beginning of creation. Colossians 1:16-18 presents the Word of God as follows:

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

This sacred capacity of the word of God to revive is based essentially on the fact that He is the creator of all things – both in heaven and earth. Since all things were created by His Word, the power to revive is also inherent in His word. God spoke all things into being by the power of His word.

Hebrews 4:12 says “The word of God is quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” This means that the Word is able to examine and judge those who hear it; the Word of God does not fail, but always accomplishes the set purpose.

The word of God is in fact a weapon of warfare that is able to destroy material things such as “joints and marrow” as well as the immaterial such as the “soul and spirit”. Indeed, the total person – spirit, soul and body, comes under the operation of the Word of God.

Beloved, what is that challenge or situation that appears impossible to resolve or overcome? The power in the Word of God can overcome it. Find what the word says about it and pray with that word in faith as the Holy Spirit directs. You will be victorious so long as you have genuinely surrendered your life to Jesus Christ.
