PROVERBS 15:14 NLT
MESSAGE| As we were getting ready to go on a trip to another country, the question that kept being asked by the people in my youth group was, “Is there Wi-Fi?” We were told there definitely would be! So just imagine the groans and the stress one night when the Wi-Fi was down!
Many of us become anxious when we’re away from our smartphones. And when we do have our iPhones or Androids in our hands, we’re often glued to our screens.
Like many things, the online world and all that it offers can be helpful, or it can become a distraction. It depends on what we do with it. In Proverbs we read, “A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on [rubbish]” (Prov. 15:14 nlt).
Thinking about this verse for ourselves, we should ask: do we check our social networks constantly throughout the day? What does that say about the things that we’re “hungry” for? And do the things we read or view online help us live for God (vv.16-21) or are we just feeding on rubbish?
As we let the Holy Spirit work in us, we can fill our minds with things that are “true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable” (Phil. 4:8 nlt). With God’s help, and the teaching of the Bible, we can make good choices that please Him.
